What is a Specialist Live-In Caregiver?

Unlike a Domestic Helper whose primary role is to help you with household chores such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, gardening, buying groceries, running errands and providing childcare, pet care or basic eldercare, a "Specialist" Live-In Caregiver is a Migrant Domestic Worker (MDW) whose primary role is to provide full time caregiving for the sick or elderly care recipients in the comforts of their own home. They are able to help out with specific basic household chores, however, it should not compromise with their caregiving role.

These caregivers are trained to assist their care recipient with their ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) as well as take care of patients with more serious health conditions including Cancer, Stroke and Dementia. They are trained to perform basic nursing roles such as stoma changing, wound dressing, tube feeding and more. These caregivers play the role of a personal health aide and companion, maintaining the patient’s physical, emotional and social well-being.

Why Hire A Live-In Caregiver?

Conducive Care in Home Environment

It allows the patient to recuperate in a more conducive home environment compared to a nursing home / community hospital / hospice.

Other family members can be around to support in the caregiving of the care recipient, providing companionship and moral support for the mental and emotional well-being of the care recipient.

Cost Effective

Given the high demand and severe shortage of skilled nurses, and high costs of hospitalisation and nursing care, MDWs are a cost effective and practical solution to patient’s care giving needs.

MDWs who are properly trained and supported are able to perform basic procedures competently.

The monthly salary of a full time live-in Specialist Caregiver range between $800 to $1000.

Employers also have to bear the cost of the maid levy, helper's living expenses such as meals, toiletries, room facilities (e.g. mattress, bed linens etc), medical and dental costs, 6 monthly medical examination, home leave, repatriation costs.

Round the Clock Coverage

A Live-In MDW provides round the clock support at home as and when required.

Moreover, whenever specialised or emergency care home medical care and nursing services are required from professional nurses and medical doctors, Vickycares is just a call away.

Note: physical medical attendance by Vickycares in house doctors and nurses are chargeable.

Avoid Burnouts

Caregiving can be highly demanding on a caregiver's body, mind and emotions, especially when it has to be juggled with all your other work, family and personal responsibilities.

Caregivers who are "burned out" may experience fatigue, stress, anxiety and depression.

Hiring a Full Time Live-In Caregiver can help to relieve you of some of this burden.

Caregivers perform a very important role for us and our loved ones.

Show your appreciation for them with a smile and a thank you. Provide your caregivers with the help and rest that they need to avoid caregiver burnout.

Treat them with care so that they are able to provide optimal caregiving to your loved ones over a prolonged period of time without getting physically, mentally and emotionally burnt out.
